Hula Dancer

This Maui luau is different from the corporate 5 star resort luaus.  Don’t get me wrong, we like the corporate 5 star resort luaus.  This luau just feels far more like you have joined a very big Hawaiian family for their celebration and feast.   Last time we were there there were less than 100 guests.

The luau is located in North Kihei (575 S. Kihei Road) on expansive luau grounds with ocean views and plenty of coconut trees and tiki torches to set the scene.  You are greeted with a traditional shell lei and welcomed to the luau.   They have created an interactive village surrounding the luau grounds.  You are invited to:

  1. Try flower lei making
  2. Get a henna temporary tattoo
  3. View an authentic imu cook out
  4. Jump in a jumpy castle
  5. Take ukulele lessons
  6. Learn to throw a Hawaiian Spear
  7. Coconut bowling
  8. Wood carving

They also have a smoothie and refreshment bar that is included in the ticket price.   Although they do not provide alcohol, you are welcome to bring your own and mix your own Pina Coladas or Mai Tais.  Plenty of folks at the luau had small coolers with them.

As the sun begins to set you are called to the feast by Samoan Chief FiaFia. .  The food at the luau is awesome.  All the traditional dishes as well as multiple vegetarian options.  We enjoyed imu roasted kalua pork, BBQ short ribs, steak, BBQ smoked chicken, grilled mahi mahi in coconut sauce,  taro rolls, egg noodle, white rice and fried rice and many different salads.  They also had an amazing desert buffet with fried lumpia bananas, and assorted baked pastries and cookies.

The Host and co-owner of the luau is Samoan Chief FiaFia.   Chief FiaFia is a powerful performer, comedian, fire knife dancer and just an awesome MC.   While you dine Chief FiaFia and his extended family, as well as many audience participants entertain you with hula, chants, a coconut husking display, comedy, Polynesian dance, live drums, and coconut tree climbing.   They have the best fire knife finale we’ve seen at any luau.

You will leave this luau with a smile on your face and a full belly… guaranteed.
